Door Dash

With the pandemic, we have been ordering more food, especially with the stimulus for help.

I do NOT like UberEats. .. they either deny payment or they cancel the order due to lack of drivers. (Even my own health insurance uses Lyft over Uber. . . that is another story.)

So we have tried different restaurants both chain and local. We have gone through DoorDash, the app is easy to use. They have all been quick and easy deliveries.

I love getting my McDonald, Taco bell, Chipotle, Subway, KFC, and Rally delivered. Their food is a bit pricier, but I just think it has to do with extra charges for delivery.

Bob Evans is by far the best for the money, especially the country fried steak meal for four. You get soup, the main on-tray, two sides, and cookies with banana bread, rolls, or biscuits. Super cheesy MacN’cheese It comes up to around 45 dollars before tip. It’s a lot of food. Grade rating: A-

However I have been disappointed with a few local places. . . a local soup place charged us 45 dollars for two soup: mind you one was lobster bisque, but it was too much for soup. For that much money, I could make twice the amount. The bread they served was small and crumbling. There were no crackers. I wouldn’t go back. I liked their plastic containers, still use them. Grade rating: C-

I went to Cracker Barrel today, and I really felt we paid too much for our food. The sides were small, the chicken and dumpling had no taste. The broccoli was cooked well and the chicken was moist. I have a variety of side which was a good thing, but they were way too small of portions. Muffins too small. Macaroni N Cheese very dry. Grade Rating: C-

Cooking Creatively

I have been getting creative lately with my cooking. . . However I have been having issues with writer’s block and motivation to get my recipes and pics up here. So I am will post all of the food pics and stuff on here.

Western or Country ribs in the crock pot (or slow cooker) with Pepsi and bourbon sauce from Chinese take-out (actually it’s Asian take-out as the place does a mixture of places and cultures in their cooking) and a tablespoon of butter and they are sweet and pull apart. You can also use BBQ sauce.

I got a new electric skillet and last night at 11:30 pm . . . I made pancakes from scratch with a peach, walnut cinnamon caramel sauce. It was really good.

I’ve made stews and soups. I even made my own beef stir-fry.

BBQ and Hot Wings

The other day. . . I through several dozen chicken wings in the crock pot with some spices and butter. . . for a few hours.

Then I  put  them on the panini press for grill marks and tossed them into BBQ sauce. (My brother made his own hot sauce with melted butter. )

I took the broth from the chicken wing and used it to make butter noodles with corn.

They turned out really good and I would defiantly make them again.

I have learned you can always get creative and use everything we have.

Fritatta Or Crustless Quiche

I’ve been into writing (working on my novels) so I haven’t been cooking as much.

I made a crustless quiche (Fritatta) yesterday . . . It’s like omelet meets pie.
I added mushroom and green pepper.
I melted cheese on top.
I seasoned with chives, pepper, and season salt.
I made it in a slow cooker and it just took a few hours.
I made scalloped potatoes.

It would have been awesome with salsa and sour cream and toast.

It was fluffy and flavorful.

Comfort food: grilled cheese and tomato soup

I made grilled cheese and tomato soup the other day. It was always a comfort food and something I remember as a kid.

I love the many combinations with grilled cheese.

There are so many combination s

  • Munster
  • Honey mustard
  • Grilled chicken
  • Grilled onions

Or

  • Swiss or Mozzarella
  • Roast beef
  • Mushrooms

The combo we had

  • American cheese
  • Bread n butter pickles
  • Bacon

I added rice and bacon and golden fish crackers to my tomato soup.

Its just yummy comfort I had from my childhood.

Rice and what works

I love a good rice dish. . .

It can be in a pudding or in a bake.

You can make rice in an oven, stove, or microwave. There is long grain, short grain, and even in a bag, instant rice.

It is versatile: there are so many different things you can do with rice.

You can make in minutes and just add herbs and butter.

I love sushi: fish and sticky rice. . . yum.

You can add gravy or sauce to it.

Yesterday when I slow cooked the BBQ ribs that fell off the bone. I took the render fat and extra BBQ sauce and use it as part of the liquid to make the rice so it had the BBQ rib flavor. (It was so good.)

Turtle even add a ginger hot sauce to it.

You can even add rice into stews and soups.

You can add fruit and nuts with it.

The suggestions are limitless: go bold, or comfortable.

Note: I was use a fork to light stir the rice as I feel it makes it fluffier.
